Organ Mountain's Ashley Galaz and Ryu Medina won the girls and boys individual District 3-5A cross country championships Saturday, Oct. 31, at Centennial High School.
Galaz, a sophomore, raced from behind to claim the girls title, according to the Las Cruces Bulletin. Her finish paced the Knights to the girls team crown. Six Organ Mountain runners finished among the top 13 in the girls race.
Medina took the boys individual title, and his Organ Mountain teammate Beaux Beasley finished second. Centennial won the boys team championship, led by Liam Macmanus in third place. Hawks teammates Keller Ford, Mason Dean and Landon Hines went 4-5-6 to lock down the team title.
Both schools now send runners to the state cross country championships Saturday, Nov. 7, at Albuquerque Academy. The Class 5A girls race opens competition at 8:30 a.m., according to Organ Mountain News. Races across five classifications run throughout the day.
Tickets are available online only through GoFan. A $17 day pass allows re-entry. Adult admission is $12, and tickets for K-12 students, seniors 65 and older and military personnel cost $8. Those lower-priced tickets do not allow re-entry. Prices include transaction fees, according to the NMAA.
Spectators can enter the Albuquerque Academy campus through the west gate off Wyoming Boulevard at Burlison or the south gate off Academy Road at Moon. Championship races will stream on the NFHS Network, and the NMAA will post results throughout the day at NMACT.org.
